Clearly, the film hit virtually every point pertaining to schizophrenia with sensitivity, realistic overtones and a message that left the audience better informed about this debilitating mental disorder. Examining it from a psychological perspective of diagnosis and influence (genetic, environmental or both) provides a significantly better understanding of how the film did an evenhanded portrayal of a disease that completely alters the protagonist's ability to function in society.
